Ingredients :

Cabbage - 1/3 of medium or 200g
-
Onion - 1 small
-
Black mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
-
Urid dal - 1 tsp
-
Curry leaves - 5-6
-
Dry red chilli - 1 for medium spicy and 2 for very spicy

Cumin (jeera) powder - 1/2 tsp (optional)
-
Grated coconut - 2 tsp (optional)

Cooking oil - 3 tsp
-
Salt - to taste

Water - as required
Method :

Wash and shred the cabbage coarsely.

Chop the onion finely; Break the chilli into 3-4 pieces.

Heat a pan on the stove and add oil.

When the oil is hot enough, add mustard seeds, urid dal, red chilli and curry leaves; Saute for a minute.

Add the chopped cabbage, onion and salt; Stir-fry for few minutes.

Add a tablespoon of water. Cover and cook for about 5-10 mins.

Open the lid and stir the cabbage a few times whilst it is cooking to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan.

Once the cabbage is cooked, add cumin powder and fry for a further 1-2 mins.

Once ready, garnish with grated coconut and serve.
