Coconut Chutney

Coconut chutney made of coconut, green chilli and roasted gram dal.
Preparation Time : 10 mins

Cooking Time : upto 5 mins

Serves : 3-4

Ingredients:
  • Grated coconut - 5 tblsp
  • Roasted gram dal- 1½ tblsp
  • Green chillies - 2
  • Chopped ginger - 1/2 tsp
  • Onion - 1 tblsp (optional)
  • Oil - 2 tsp
  • Urid dal - 1/2 tsp (optional)
  • Curry leaves - 1 Sprig
  • Black mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt - to taste

Method:
  1. Grate the coconut; chop the onion, chilli and ginger.
  2. Grind coconut and roasted gram dal first in a mill jar on a low power/pulse mode without water for about 10-20 seconds.
  3. Add about 4-5 tablespoon of water, ginger, salt and onion.
  4. Grind again on low power for about 1-2 minutes.
  5. Add green chilli and grind on low power for about a minute.
  6. Add water if needed.
  7. Heat a small frying pan and add oil.
  8. Season with mustard seeds, urid dal and curry leaves.
  9. Add the seasoning to the chutney.
  10. Coconut chutney is ready to be served.

Notes:
Serve it for Idlis/Dosas/Vadas. If the weather is cold, add lukewarm water when grinding. Roasted gram dal can be replaced with peanuts or cashewnuts.
