Tamarind Chutney / Puli chutney

Ingredients: |

Chopped Corinader Leaves - 3 tblsp

Choppen Mint Leaves - 3 tblsp

Chopped Curry leaves - 1 tblsp (optional)

Grated Coconut - 2 tblsp

Tamarind - ball of 1 inch in diameter

Onion - 1/2 medium
-
Garlic - 1 clove
-
Green Chilli - 1 for medium spicy or 2 for extra spicy

Oil - 1 tsp
-
Salt - to taste

Water - as required

Method: |

Chop coriander leaves, mint leaves, curry leaves, chilli and onion.

Peel the Garlic. Grate the coconut.

Wash the tamarind and soak it in 1 table spoon of water.

Heat oil in a frying pan.

Fry the grated coconut for about 1-2 minutes.

Combine coriander leaves, mint leaves, 3/4s of curry leaves, chilli, onion, garlic, tamarind and tamarind soaked water.

Grind them in a medium jar for about 1-2 minutes on a low power.

Add onion, roasted coconut and salt.

Grind again for a minute on a low power. Add a table spoon of water if needed.

Garnish with chopped curry leaves if preferred.

Tamarind chutney is ready to be eaten.

Notes: |
Tamarind can be replaced by a teaspoon of Amchoor(Mango) powder or 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. It is a good side-dish for Samosas or <a href="/recipes/Rice-porridge">Rice porridge</a>. <!-- or <a href="/recipes/Rice-porridge-02">Nonbu Kanji</a>. --> |
